Frequently Asked Questions

Standard MAXXAIR® Vent Cover Questions

The Standard MAXXAIR Vent Cover was designed to cover a standard roof vent or small bathroom fan. It will restrict the airflow of a high-powered ventilator fan. Our FANMATE Rain Covers are designed to cover high-powered ventilation fans with minimal airflow restriction. If the room available on the RV roof is limited, our MAXXAIR II Vent Cover is an acceptable alternative.

All vent covers require that you go on the roof to clean underneath them. With the Standard MAXXAIR Vent Cover you simply remove four (4) nuts holding the vent cover to the mounting brackets and the whole cover is then removed to allow full access to the roof vent.

The Standard MAXXAIR Vent Cover is not designed to cover a high-powered fan such as the Fan-Tastic brand. Our FANMATE Rain Covers are designed to cover high-powered ventilation fans with minimal airflow restriction. The FANMATE has a mounting system specifically designed for installation on high-powered ventilator fans. If the room available on the RV roof is limited, our MAXXAIR II Vent Cover is an acceptable alternative.

When properly installed the Standard MAXXAIR Vent Cover will have between a ½” and 1” gap underneath it. This gap will allow any condensation or wind-blown rain that is underneath the vent cover a chance to escape and not pool on your roof vent seal. Do not caulk this gap.

MAXXAIR® II Vent Cover Questions

The side louvers of the MAXXAIR II will provide increased ventilation when both parked and driving. The louvers have been designed to allow more airflow but to still prevent rain from entering the RV.

The MAXXAIR II can safely be installed over a high-powered fan such as the MAXXFAN or Fan-Tastic fan. However the FANMATE is specifically designed for high-powered fans and will provide less restriction to the airflow and is the recommended rain cover for high-powered fans.

All vent covers are approximately the same height. All automatic opening lids on high-powered fans are equipped with current sensing circuits that will automatically shut off the lift motor when an obstruction is encountered or the lid reaches the end of its travel. This is normal and will not cause excess wear or shorten the life of the fan. The small amount that the lid does not open underneath a vent cover has no effect on the airflow. Our testing has shown that once the lid is open approximately 50% that the fan will achieve maximum airflow. It is safe to install a vent cover on any style high-powered fan.

Yes it is perfectly acceptable to drive with the fan lid open underneath the FANMATE as long as the FANMATE is installed properly. No harm will come to the fan or FANMATE.

Yes, the FANMATE was specifically designed to be installed over a Fan-Tastic or other brand high-powered fan with a plastic housing. MAXXAIR has done extensive testing to ensure that the mounting brackets will not come loose when installed per the instructions.

No, the old Turbo/Maxx product was based on a different style of housing. The current FANMATE is not able to handle a motor and fan blade. Since our Turbo/Maxx product has been discontinued, we recommend our MAXXFAN products if you need a ventilator fan for your RV.

MAXXFAN® / MAXXFAN® Plus Questions

Yes, the MAXXFAN and MAXXFAN Plus are designed with dual lifting arms to fully support the lid if installed properly. This makes the lid very sturdy and able to withstand high driving speeds when left open, it also prevents the lid from vibrating and rattling during high winds when the RV is parked. Be sure to fully open the lid when driving so the dual lift arms provide the maximum support for the lid.

Both lid colors will let light into the RV. The smoke-tinted lid is similar to sunglasses or tinted windows and will allow more light and heat into the RV. Both lids are designed with materials to provide long life in extreme sun and weather conditions.

Simply rotate the four retaining knobs which hold the interior screen in place. The screen can then be rinsed off with water to clean. Mild detergent is also okay to clean stubborn grime on the screen.

No, the HandHeld Remote Control is infrared and only works when within line of sight of the MAXXFAN Plus.

The Rain Sensor has a ‘disable’ function. Simply activate the ‘disable’ function and the MAXXFAN will stay open and continue operating even if the Rain Sensor is wet. Use caution when disabling the Rain Sensor as water may enter the RV.

Yes, even with the Rain Sensor option it is perfectly acceptable to install a FANMATE Rain Cover over your MAXXFAN or MAXXFAN Plus. The FANMATE will allow the MAXXFAN to continue to be operated even when it is raining while protecting your RV from rain intrusion.
